Nylon packaging materials used to use "nylon 6". However, the airtightness of nylon 6 is not ideal. There is a type of nylon (MKD6) formed by the condensation of dimethylamine and adipic acid, which has an air tightness 10 times higher than "nylon 6", as well as good transparency and puncture resistance. It is mainly used as a high barrier packaging film for food flexible packaging with high barrier requirements. Its food hygiene has also been approved by the FDA.
Its biggest feature as a film is that its barrier properties do not decrease with increasing humidity. In Europe, due to prominent environmental protection issues, MXD6 nylon is widely used as a substitute for PVDC films. A novel film with bidirectional extensibility composed of MXD6 nylon and EVOH, serving as a high barrier nylon film. The methods of composite include multi-layer composite, as well as the method of blending MXD6 nylon and EVOH for stretching.
