EVOH has always been the most widely used high barrier material. In addition to non stretchable types, there are also biaxially stretchable, aluminum vapor deposited, adhesive coated, and heat-resistant types of films for this material. Among the biaxially stretchable types, there are also heat-resistant types used for sterile packaging products.
The barrier performance of EVOH depends on the ethylene content. Generally speaking, as the ethylene content increases, the gas barrier performance decreases, but it is easier to process.
The prominent features of EVOH are excellent gas barrier properties and excellent processability, as well as outstanding transparency, gloss, mechanical strength, stretchability, wear resistance, cold resistance, and surface strength.
In the field of packaging, EVOH is used as a composite film intermediate barrier layer, applied in all hard and soft packaging; Used in the food industry for sterile packaging, hot pots, and steaming bags, packaging dairy products, meat, canned fruit juice, and seasonings; In non food applications, it is used for packaging solvents, chemicals, air conditioning structural components, gasoline tank liners, electronic components, etc. In terms of food packaging, EVOH's plastic containers can completely replace glass and metal containers. Many domestic seafood companies export seafood using PE/EVOH/PA/EVOH/PE five layer co extruded film vacuum packaging. While accelerating the research on EVOH composite films, foreign countries are also studying the stretching orientation of EVOH. The new EVOH film has three times the gas barrier performance of existing high-performance non stretched EVOH films. In addition, EVOH can also be coated as a barrier material on other synthetic resin packaging materials to enhance the barrier performance.
